Phase Three Disciple-Maker:

  • seeks direct guidance from Scripture as he/she faithfully carries out the directives of God’s Word (Jn. 14:21) so as to be an example to all believers and of good reputation to those outside the faith (1 Tim. 3:7, 4:12).
  • loves God with all their heart and others as themselves (Lk. 10:27), intentionally focusing on ministry while avoiding other priorities that may distract them (Lk. 9:51 & 62).
  • depends upon the power of Christ to do ministry he/she could not otherwise do (Acts 3:6) as they shepherd the disciples (Acts 20:28), making themselves accountable to more mature leaders (Heb. 6:9-12; 13:7-8).
  • seeks the interests of Christ (Phil. 2:12-18) as he/she continues to grow in holiness and the fear of God (2 Cor. 7:1), living life as a model for others (1 Cor. 11:1).
  • prays for his/her disciples (2 Tim. 1:3; Col. 1:3 & 9) as he/she strengthens and encourages them in the faith (1 Thess. 3:2).
  • pursues righteousness, faith, love, and peace (2 Tim. 2:22), always ready to defend his/her faith (1 Pet. 3:15).
  • diligently studies God’s Word, holding and guarding sound doctrine without departing from the Biblical basics (2 Tim. 1:13-14, 3:14-15; 1 Pet. 1:10).
  • rejoices always, prays without ceasing, and gives thanks in all things (1 Thess. 5:16-18).
  • is filled with the knowledge of God, His Word, and His will as he/she evaluates all of life from God’s perspective (Rom. 15:14; 1 Cor. 2:15).
  • pursues holiness, righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness as he/she keeps God’s commandments with a clear conscience (1 Tim. 6:11 & 14; 2 Tim. 1:3).
  • teaches, admonishes, encourages, and protects the spiritual lives of his/her disciples (2 Cor. 11:2; Col. 1:28).
  • gives honor to other Christians not based on personal abilities but on his/her identity in Christ, and he/she uses loving accountability to equip his/her disciples (2 Cor. 5:16; 9:1-5).
  • admonishes the unruly, encourages the faint-hearted, helps the weak, and is patient with all (1 Thes. 5:14).

Older men and women in the faith should teach younger men and women to live godly lives (Titus 2:4 & 6).
